Two Chief Cooks Impress in Latest IFS Training in the Philippines

International Food Services (IFS) has graduated a new cohort of cooks, at the company’s training facility in the Philippines. One of the graduates who stood out to the trainer was Sisenando Vergara, a chief cook from Rolldock. His experience working onshore for a renowned restaurant chain in the Philippines allowed him to draw similarities between the IFS System and the system he implemented in the restaurant. Vergara mentioned to his trainers that he understood the importance of implementing a uniform system, such as the IFS System, to maintain organization in the galley and ensure consistency across vessels.

Another trainee who impressed the instructors during the course was Benedicto Bulaong Jr., a Chief Cook from Stolt. Mr. Bulaong's commitment is typical of many Filipino seafarers who understand the importance of honing their craft while balancing the demands of their work and family obligations. Their commitment to excellence and self-improvement is proof of the value they place on their profession and the sacrifices they make for their families.

The five-day training covers theoretical and practical training after which the trainees undergo an assessment in cooking skills, menu planning, inventory management, sustainability, safety, and hygiene inside the galleys.  Upon successful completion, they are given access to the IFS coach app, and the IFS cooking App, as well as being awarded with an IFS Chief Cook certification. In addition, all attendees are awarded the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) certification. IFS congratulates all the newly certified cooks for their resilience and commitment.
