Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be the architect of our crew’s professional journey. Your daily impact will include:
- Career Mentorship: Monitor career progression and recommend personalized development interventions to help our crew reach their full potential.
- Strategic Briefing: Conduct vital pre-deployment briefings and post-deployment debriefings to ensure alignment with client standards and capture lessons learned.
- Training Excellence: Assess training needs across the fleet, developing comprehensive calendars and innovative modules that address skill gaps.
- Competency Assessment: Administer trade tests for new hires and promotion candidates, ensuring objective and fair evaluations of culinary expertise.
- Hands-on Coaching: Deliver engaging classroom sessions and provide direct one-on-one coaching to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a proactive professional with a blend of culinary mastery and educational expertise. Our ideal candidate brings:
- Expertise: A Bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management (or related)
- Experience: 3- 5 years of onboard experience as a Chief Cook.
- Culinary Range: Proficiency in European, Asian, Mediterranean, and American cuisines, including baking and pastry arts.
- Training Foundation: At least 1 year of experience in training delivery, preferably with a Training of Trainers (TOT) qualification.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional English communication, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work under pressure with high impact.
- Standards: Solid knowledge of Hygiene Legislation (MARPOL), food safety, and competency-based assessment methods.

As part of our continued growth, IFS is expanding its operations in Portugal and is looking for driven professionals to strengthen our team. As an Operations Officer, you will play a key role in supporting and managing the day-to-day catering operations for a fleet of vessels worldwide. This is a dynamic and hands-on role within an international environment where no two days are the same.
This position is designed for individuals who are eager to build a long-term career in operations. You will follow a structured onboarding program, gaining experience across different functions within our Operations department, with the opportunity to gradually take on more responsibility, including managing your own fleet of vessels.
Role Overview
The Operations Officer is responsible for coordinating and monitoring catering operations for
vessels, ensuring smooth execution of orders, accurate administration, and high client
satisfaction.
During your onboarding, you will be trained across different operational roles and processes,
allowing you to build a strong foundation before taking full ownership of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
Operations and Order Management
● Process and monitor daily orders for assigned vessels
● Coordinate with suppliers, captains, and stakeholders to ensure timely deliveries
● Follow up on order confirmations, changes, and operational issues
● Ensure all urgent matters are handled promptly
Client and Stakeholder Communication
● Act as a key point of contact for vessels, suppliers, and ship owners
● Build strong working relationships with captains and stakeholders
● Ensure clear, professional, and timely communication
Financial and Data Accuracy
● Monitor vessel budgets and consumption
● Check and process invoices, inventories, and daily meal reports
● Ensure accuracy of all operational data in internal systems
(Strong focus on accuracy and financial control is essential in OPS roles )
Problem Solving and Claims Handling
● Follow up on claims and ensure proper resolution
● Identify operational issues and take corrective action
● Escalate complex cases when needed
Continuous Improvement and Ownership
● Gradually take ownership of a fleet of vessels
● Contribute to improving operational processes
● Support team performance and collaboration
Working Hours and Flexibility
Shift work, 5 days per week between Monday and Saturday (40 hours per week)
Location: Our office in Lisbon
Requirements
Your Profile
Experience and Education
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
● Minimum 3 years of experience in operations, logistics, supply chain, or similar
● Experience in maritime, catering, or shipping is a plus
Skills and Competencies
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
● High attention to detail and accuracy
● Strong organizational and planning skills
● Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
● Proactive, hands-on mentality with a sense of ownership
● Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Languages
● Professional-level English (mandatory)
● Fluent in Portuguese
